Manorama, the progressive, pretty princess of Chandan Nagar, is in search of a suitable match for herself. She even takes a trip to England to get 'the man of her dreams', but very soon comes back to Bombay utterly disappointed. Shanti, a beautiful dancer, always accompanies the princess to keep her in joyful mood.

Handsome Chandan, the only son of a wealthy jeweller (JOHARI) of Bombay, thinking that the princess might fall in for him, arrives at her bungalow alongwith his bosom friend Sunder to try his luck. At this time Shanti is returning to her room, passing through the corridor after having entertained the princess's guests with a fascinating dance in glittering costumes. Chandan mistakes her for the princes and starts admiring her in such a fervent manner that he does not allow her to speak her mind even for a single moment. For fun's sake, Shanti refrains from telling her true identity to Chandan and accepts his invitation to a dinner with renewed interest. At the dinner table, the adoring attentions of Chandan keeps Shanti pleasantly occupied and she leaves her host promising to see him very often.

The Dewan of her State writes to the princes to come back to discuss some matter of grave importance. She returns to the State along with Shanti. Now, Chandan can no longer bear his beloved's separation and so he, too, sets out for State along with Sunder hoping to marry the princess. When the Dewan of the State ushers Chandan as a suitor for princess, she gets the shock of her life. Chandan and Sunder are imprisoned for such a flagrant venture on their part. Shanti, who comes to know of what has happened, is regretful for this serious turn of affairs. Oddly enough, in her heart of heart the princess feels the seed of love expanding itself and communicating her emotions in confidence to Shanti, she releases Chandan and his friend form the prison.

Shanti is taken aback! She does not know what to do as she finds the princes as her rival in love for Chandan. What happens afterwards and how the JOHARI boy selects the real pearl, is unfolded on the silver screen.
